Mechanism of action of SiIdenafil Citrate

Pretreatment of smooth muscle strips with Sildenafil  in human clitoral and vaginal tissue, has known to induce relaxations suggesting that NO (nitric oxide) is a key mediator of clitoral and vaginal smooth muscle relaxation.

Increased clitoral and vaginal vasocongestion during sexual arousal is in part mediated by the nitric oxide-cyclic guanosine monophosphate pathway c-GNIP is tightly regulated in these smooth muscle cells and the nitric oxide/cGMP pathway may be important in the regulation of clitoral and vaginal smooth muscle tone.

Sildenafil is known to enhance the genital blood flow and vaginal and clitoral engorgement in women with FSAD. Thus, vaginal & Clitoral cells express a functional NO/ Guanylyl cyc|ase/ PDE5 pathway
